Nieuw, maar niet alleen

As director, Yve Baya shaped the fifth and final episode, ‘Nieuw, maar niet alleen’, around four young refugees (Karim, Nay, Ivan and Zenat) finding their voice in a new environment. Rather than focusing on their past, the episode puts their talents, dreams and personalities centre stage. Hip-hop artist Jay-Way takes the youngsters under his wing, becoming a big-brother figure who encourages them to step outside their comfort zones and build confidence in their own abilities. Together, they turn their personal experiences into a powerful song about what it means to be new in a country, a classroom or a neighbourhood.

The series was subsequently nominated for the Televizier-Ring Jeugd 2025, one of the Netherlands’ most prominent audience awards for youth television. The nomination added recognition to a series that gives young newcomers a voice and challenges the way their stories are represented in Dutch media.
